Sophos Firewall and Sophos UTM (SG) include two malware scan engines which are used for scanning web and email traffic. In addition to Sophos’s own scan engine, which is used by default, we also provide a scan engine from Avira.
Avira have announced that the 32-bit variant of their scan engine will no longer be supported after December 31, 2022. As a result, Sophos Firewall has integrated the 64-bit Avira engine as of SFOS v19 MR1. Sophos UTM will receive an update in October that integrates the 64-bit engine. This post describes how this change could affect Sophos Firewall and Sophos UTM (SG) customers and how to avoid any potential issues resulting from it.
