Lifecycle Information: Sophos AP Series End of Life (Dec. 31, 2023)

ProductsAccess PointsEnd-of-LifeSophos Product Lifecycle

Updated guidance for your customers using our legacy AP Series access points managed via Sophos Central, Sophos Firewall OS, or Sophos UTM.

The information in this post supersedes any prior communication and was also published on the Sophos Wireless Community.

The December 31, 2023 end-of-life date is an important milestone for any Sophos Wi-Fi customers using our legacy AP Series models.

As the release of the AP6 Series Wi-Fi 6 models was later than originally anticipated, as a gesture of goodwill, we are not immediately implementing the changes upon the EOL that were previously communicated.

Please ensure that you inform your customers that any use of the AP Series after the EOL date is at their own risk and encourage them to upgrade to a supported product as soon as possible.

FAQs for AP Series Customers

What changes on December 31, 2023?

There will be no immediate change; your APs will continue to function.

We do eventually plan to remove support from each of the management platforms. These changes will come in future software releases that are still to be defined. See below for further information.

Your EOL AP will no longer be eligible for support or RMA (Return Material Authorization).

Any use of the AP Series after the EOL date is at your own risk.

What if my Sophos Firewall/UTM has an active support contract?

An active support contract for your Sophos Firewall/UTM has no bearing on the status of your attached EOL AP.

When will the last supported software versions be communicated?

We will aim to publish the version/release information as early as possible to give you time to plan your alternatives (if you have not already done so). However, as these are changes that would happen at some point after the EOL date, any advance notice will be on a best-effort basis and communication will not be subject to the usual 90-day notice period for partners. Additional information is provided below.

Sophos strongly recommends that you upgrade your network and discontinue the use of all EOL equipment.

How will the last supported software versions be communicated?

Once the version/release information is available, a banner will be shown within your management console alerting you to the EOL status.

As soon as available, we will also publish the information on the Sophos Wireless Community blog, as a Partner News blog, and in the Retirement Calendar.

Ensure that you subscribe to the Wireless Community Blog for all the latest release notes and lifecycle updates.

How much advance notice will customers/partners get about any changes?

Advance notice of support changes for products that have already reached their EOL date cannot be guaranteed, and changes may come with little to no notice. We will aim to alert you as early as possible via either your firewall/UTM console or Sophos Central (cloud-managed APs only).

Use of an EOL product is at your own risk and uninterrupted operation is not guaranteed. Please plan your upgrade to a supported product accordingly to avoid any impact on your connectivity or your compliance status.

What is the suggested migration path for AP Series customers?

Customers currently have the choice between two different access point series.

See the Compare Models page at sophos.com/wireless for full details.
